Dr. Mark Sherman, in concert with his surgical tech Jacob Carey, founded the Unity Games, bringing sixth, seventh and eighth-graders from disparate backgrounds together for games and workshops, using basketball as the lure. In 40 years as a team doctor, Sherman stood on the sideline for 1,000 high school football games, refusing any out-of-pocket payment, and recruiting colleagues to provide free screenings for every public-school player in the city.(Read more...)

Staten Island Little League Founders
Little League baseball was barely a rumor on Staten Island in the 1950s, until a group of determined men built something they called the Staten Island Little League.
